The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the suspected suicide of a 46-year-old businessman, Kayode Akinbolusere, popularly known as Tolufe.
Akinbolusere, the owner of Esther Estate, reportedly died in his office in the Igba area of Ondo State on Thursday, October 29, after allegedly ingesting a poisonous substance.
Before his death, the businessman reportedly recorded a video in which he spoke about his personal struggles and announced that he was leaving his properties to his wife, Esther, and their three children based in Canada.
In the video, he praised his wife for standing by him during difficult times, particularly when he was working as a barber and had little money.
He also recounted how two machines he was using for his business developed faults on the day of the incident, saying the situation left him reflecting on his life and business challenges.
Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command received information from members of the public about the businessman’s death.
He explained that officers attached to the Bolorunduro Police Division visited the scene, where they recovered two empty bottles suspected to have contained Sniper insecticide from a nearby bush.
According to the police, preliminary findings also showed that the deceased had allegedly recorded a video before his death, which later circulated on social media.
