The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects over alleged illegal possession and fabrication of firearms in Misau Local Government Area of the state.
The command also arrested a 26-year-old man, Lukman Alhaji Nasiru, over the alleged rape of a 50-year-old mentally ill woman in Gamawa Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the arrests were part of efforts to tackle illegal firearms and sexual offences in the state.
According to the police, operatives of the Misau Division intercepted 30-year-old Abubakar Ahmad, also known as Tino, on September 25.
Ahmad was allegedly found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with a live cartridge.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that Ahmad was attempting to hand over the firearm to Tijjani Yakubu, 35, who was already being held at a correctional centre over alleged criminal conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.
Yakubu allegedly admitted ownership of the pistol, telling investigators that he had given it to Ahmad for safekeeping.
He reportedly identified 48-year-old Bappah Kawu, a welder from Tashar Masu in Misau, as the person who sold the firearm to him.

Following the information, police arrested Kawu, who allegedly confessed to fabricating and selling the pistol to Yakubu for N30,000.
A search of Kawu’s workshop reportedly led to the recovery of two locally fabricated dane guns and materials suspected to have been used for firearm production, including a hacksaw, files and long iron pipes.
The police said the three suspects remained in custody, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.
In a separate incident in Gamawa, Nasiru was arrested following an allegation involving a 50-year-old mentally ill woman.
The woman’s younger brother reportedly reported the matter at the Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters on September 25.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly took the woman to the outskirts of Garin Malam on September 22, where he allegedly had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
Following the complaint, police arrested Nasiru and took both him and the woman to the General Hospital, Gamawa, for medical examination.
The command said investigation into the alleged rape was ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, warned that the command would not tolerate illegal possession or fabrication of firearms and sexual offences.
He also urged residents to provide credible information to the police to help prevent crime and protect communities.
