Police operatives in Ogun State have arrested a 45-year-old man, Ameachi Anthony, over an alleged N2.5 million fraud.
The suspect was arrested on September 22 by officers attached to the Igbesa Division of the Ogun State Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to him, 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones were recovered from the suspect during the operation.
Babaseyi said preliminary investigation showed that the suspect allegedly used utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards through associates to facilitate the opening of bank accounts.
He added that the ATM cards were subsequently collected and allegedly used for fraudulent transactions.
The suspect and the recovered items have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, for further investigation.
In a related development, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics team arrested a 34-year-old man, Peter Olanrewaju, over information concerning a suspected cult-related gathering.

Further investigation reportedly led to the arrest of another suspect, 36-year-old Adebayo Sodiq.
Police also recovered one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols during the operation.
The command said investigations were ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and identify other persons who may be linked to the case.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to proactive policing.
