The Ogun State Police Command has arrested six suspected criminals and recovered firearms, ammunition, generators, and mobile phones during a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.
The suspects, identified as Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as “Okiki,” Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone,” Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” and Adeboye Ojesina, were apprehended in separate operations carried out by officers of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, and the Ibafo Division.
According to the police, the operations conducted in Abeokuta, Wasimi, and Ibafo led to the recovery of a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators, and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the operations targeted criminal activities involving illegal possession of firearms, theft, armed intimidation, conspiracy, and receiving stolen property.

Babaseyi explained that on May 30, 2026, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit acted on credible intelligence and arrested Moruf Sodiq, also known as “Okiki,” who was allegedly linked to a generator theft syndicate operating within Abeokuta and surrounding communities.
Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly led investigators to Mumuni Amodu, known as “Stone,” who was identified as a receiver of stolen goods. A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” a motorcyclist alleged to have been used by members of the criminal network for transportation during their operations.
In another operation conducted on June 12, 2026, SWAT operatives arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and the use of weapons to intimidate residents in Wasimi and nearby communities.
Police recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges, and one expended cartridge from the suspect. Although Ojesina initially denied ownership of the weapons, he later claimed he found the pistol within the community and discharged a round while testing it. He also alleged that the pump-action rifle was handed to him by an unidentified individual who is currently being tracked by investigators.
Meanwhile, operatives attached to the Ibafo Division arrested Afisu Awesu after he was allegedly caught attempting to steal parts from a forklift at a site in Igbeti Sote Village.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had earlier stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu, who was subsequently arrested for allegedly receiving stolen property.
The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend another suspect who escaped during the operation and to identify other members of the criminal networks.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operations, describing their actions as a reflection of professionalism and effective intelligence-driven policing.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents across Ogun State.
The police added that all suspects remain in custody and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
