The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony, over the alleged murder of a community leader in Unguwar Ngas, Bauchi Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, the incident was reported on July 19, 2026, at the ‘A’ Division Township Police Station by a resident of the area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly armed himself with a locally made single-barrel firearm and fired at the victim, identified as 55-year-old Jacob Bature, who was a community leader in the area.
The victim reportedly sustained severe gunshot injuries to the ribs and fell unconscious at the scene.
He was immediately rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where medical personnel confirmed him dead

Police operatives swiftly moved into action, leading to the arrest of the suspect. During the operation, the firearm allegedly used in the attack, along with an empty cartridge, was recovered.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, while the suspect is expected to be charged to court upon completion of the process.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating violent crimes across the state. He also urged residents to avoid unlawful possession of firearms and report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
