The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Muhammad Garba Ladan, over the alleged killing of his four-month-old daughter, Fatimah Muhammad, in Zirami, Azare.
The incident was reported to the police on Thursday, September 24, 2026, after the child’s mother reportedly returned home to find her daughter unconscious and not breathing.
According to the police, the mother said she had left the baby asleep but later discovered her condition upon returning. She also reportedly told investigators that she saw her husband, Ladan, coming out of the room shortly before she found the child.
The baby was rushed to the General Hospital, Azare, where a doctor reportedly confirmed her death and attributed it to strangulation.

Following the report, police arrested Ladan and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
The police said the investigation is ongoing and that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further investigation.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
