The Oyo State Police Command has defended the arrest of a man seen in a viral video in Ibadan, saying the suspect was apprehended over alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
The command disclosed that operatives of its Anti-Cultism Unit carried out the arrest, adding that the video appeared to have been recorded by a passerby who might not have known the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The reaction followed allegations by a social media user who claimed to have previously encountered the squad and raised concerns about its operations around Apete and Adamasingba.

However, the police clarified that there is no officially recognised unit known as the “Anti-Squad Mangarawa” in the Oyo State Police Command, identifying the formation responsible as the Anti-Cultism Unit.
The command maintained that its operations in Apete were intelligence-driven due to concerns about cult-related activities in the area.
It also urged members of the public to report any specific incident involving alleged police misconduct, assuring residents that such complaints would receive appropriate attention.
