
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested eight people in connection with a recent public disturbance in the state.
The police said the suspects were arrested for allegedly engaging in acts capable of disrupting public peace and defying lawful security directives.
The Command also dismissed reports that police officers fired shots during the incident, stating that no firearm was discharged by its personnel.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, no gunshot injury was recorded or reported in connection with the disturbance.

The eight suspects are currently assisting with investigations, while the police said anyone found culpable would face the law.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities, warning the public against spreading unverified information capable of creating fear and tension.
Police authorities also appealed to bloggers, media practitioners and social media users to verify security-related reports before publishing them.
