The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, following a shooting incident in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The incident occurred around 4pm in the Itaolokan area of Osogbo, shortly after a confrontation involving suspected hoodlums near the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the incident followed a courtesy visit by Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and his nephew, Davido, to the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun.
The police said a suspected thug identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was resisted by members of his security team.
The confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members, who temporarily blocked the palace entrance and obstructed movement. The governor’s convoy eventually left the area safely.

The suspected gang members later reportedly left the vicinity and, according to the police, allegedly shot Yusuf at Itaolokan.
Police officers who arrived at the scene found the victim in a pool of blood and rushed him to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. He was, however, pronounced dead by doctors.
The Commissioner of Police (Election), Osun State Command, CP Samuel Etaifo, condemned the incident and ordered a full-scale investigation.
The police said efforts have been intensified to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, assuring residents that those responsible would be brought to justice.
The command also appealed to members of the public with useful information about the incident to contact the nearest police station or the Osun State Police Command.
Residents were urged to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue.
