
Personnel of Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, have freed two individuals abducted along the Ochumekwu–Ugbobi road in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State following a swift response to an emergency alert.
Security sources told Zagazola that the incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. on May 10, 2026. Troops from Sector 2 OPWS, stationed at Ochumekwu, mobilised immediately after receiving intelligence about ongoing kidnapping activities in the area.
On arriving at the scene, the soldiers confirmed that two civilians had been taken by armed attackers along the road. They immediately pursued the kidnappers, tracing their escape route across nearby terrain.

The pressure from the pursuing troops forced the criminals to abandon their captives and flee, leading to the safe recovery of the victims.
Military officials said the rescued individuals were later handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for identification and further procedures. Security forces have also intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to deter further incidents and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
