A violent clash among commercial tricycle operators in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, has left one person dead following a heated dispute over operational compliance.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday at Angwan Kassa, claimed the life of 29-year-old Jessy Markus, who was responsible for issuing daily operational passes to members of the tricycle riders’ union.
According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation began when Markus stopped a rider who allegedly failed to obtain the mandatory daily pass required for operation. He insisted that the rider comply before continuing his activities.
The situation escalated after the rider reportedly left the scene, only to return later with his younger brother and a group of associates, some of whom were armed with knives.
What started as a verbal disagreement quickly turned violent, and Markus was allegedly stabbed during the altercation. He was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The attack triggered panic in the area, forcing residents, traders, and other operators to flee as tensions rose.
Security operatives responded promptly to a distress call and were deployed to restore order and prevent further violence.
Police sources confirmed that two suspects the rider and his younger brother have been arrested and are currently in custody.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, security personnel remain stationed in the area to maintain peace and prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
As of the time of this report, the Taraba State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
