Security agencies have launched a full-scale investigation into a deadly robbery attack that claimed the life of a student of DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, and left several others injured.
The incident, which occurred in the Eruku community, has sparked widespread concern among students and residents, prompting urgent security interventions.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) confirmed that a high-level security meeting was held on August 3, involving the institution’s management, traditional rulers, alumni representatives, and heads of security agencies within the Itori axis.
According to the SUG leadership, security operatives are currently carrying out “deep and thorough investigations” to apprehend those responsible for the attack and prevent future occurrences.
To strengthen safety in the area, discussions are ongoing with the Nigerian Army’s 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, on the possible establishment of a military base and checkpoint around the community.

Students have also been directed to carry valid identification at all times due to intensified stop-and-search operations across Itori and neighbouring areas.
Beyond security concerns, the union raised alarm over the rising cost of off-campus accommodation, noting that arbitrary rent increases by landlords have forced some students to drop out despite being able to afford tuition fees.
The SUG further highlighted persistent insecurity in areas such as Afowowa, Eruku, and the Complex Gasline axis, as well as poor electricity supply, which continues to affect students’ academic activities and overall safety.
Stakeholders at the meeting resolved to intensify joint security patrols and explore long-term solutions, including the construction of on-campus hostels to provide safer and more affordable housing for students.
The tragic incident had earlier triggered protests, with students blocking the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway after suspected armed robbers reportedly attacked multiple houses, killing a final-year student and injuring others.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to restore calm and ensure justice for the victim.
