A young man in Ogun State has appealed to the Nigeria Police for forgiveness after admitting to staging a fake bandits attack video to boost his social media following.
The suspect, identified only as Qawiyu from Ibaragun, is currently in police custody. In his statement, he confessed that he created the false alarm intentionally to gain TikTok followers.
“I raised a fake bandits attack just to gain TikTok followers. Please forgive me. My Ileya customers’ clothes are still in my shop,” he said.

Qawiyu explained how he recruited a Fulani herdsman who frequently passed behind his shop with his cattle. He said he persuaded the herdsman to appear in the video despite initial refusal, and instructed his apprentice to record the clip.
“I did it because I saw people doing it to gain followers,” he added.
The police are continuing their investigation into the incident, which sparked panic when the video circulated online.
