Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, has commended the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and Kenol Nigeria Limited for their contributions to the successful hosting of the 2026 National Engineering Games, while calling on the diplomatic community to partner with the Society in expanding the event in future editions.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2026 National Engineering Games on Saturday, July 11, 2026, in Abuja, the NSE President said greater collaboration from diplomatic missions and development partners would further strengthen the Games’ role in building friendship, healthy competition and international goodwill.
Engr. Rabiu, represented by the Deputy President of NSE, Engr. Valerie Ifueko Agberagba, FNSE, said the invitation to the diplomatic community aligns with one of the core objectives of the National Engineering Games which is to build friendships that promote global peace through sports.
Reflecting on the history of the Games, the NSE President recalled that the National Engineering Games was established in 2011 to promote the physical, mental and social well-being of Engineers while strengthening friendship, teamwork and camaraderie among members of the Society.
“I would like to emphasise that we have diligently stayed true to the original purpose of this noble initiative. When we launched this programme in 2011, it was with the intent to give our Engineers, who work tirelessly across all sectors of the economy, a well-deserved opportunity to take a break from their demanding schedules, engage in physical activity and promote overall fitness and wellness,” he said.
According to him, while the Games provide a platform for healthy competition, they also reinforce the values of discipline, resilience, teamwork and excellence that define the engineering profession.
