The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested a 38-year-old man over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in Fana village, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident was confirmed by the Secretary of the Kebbi Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence, Nasir Idris, in a statement made available to journalists in iBirnin Kebbi.
Idris said the girl’s parents reported the alleged incident to the NSCDC in Kamba, following which the child was taken to the Mai Talle Tara Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Kalgo for medical examination and documentation.

According to him, the suspect was subsequently taken to the Kebbi State Command of the NSCDC, where he was expected to remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
However, Idris said the suspect complained of ill health after arriving at the command, leading officers to delay his detention until he could undergo a medical examination.
He explained that members of the Technical Working Group on GBV rejected a proposal that the girl’s parents should pay for the suspect’s medical examination.
Idris said the examination later showed that the suspect had no serious medical condition.
He added that NSCDC officers assured the GBV working group that the suspect would be brought before the appropriate court to face further proceedings over the allegation.
