The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is preparing to induct five newly acquired helicopters into service as part of efforts to strengthen military operations against insecurity across the country.
The ceremony will also feature the unveiling of reconstructed Presidential Air Fleet (PAF) hangars at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to commission the reconstructed facilities, which will provide accommodation for the aircraft and support maintenance activities.
The newly acquired helicopters consist of two Airbus H-125 aircraft manufactured by Airbus Helicopters and three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters produced by Italian aviation company Leonardo Helicopters.

The acquisition forms part of the Federal Government’s plan to modernise the Armed Forces, improve their operational capacity and strengthen their response to emerging security threats.
According to the Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the government remains committed to improving the service’s operational capabilities through investments in aviation equipment.
Ejodame disclosed that the three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters arrived in Lagos on September 15, 2026, as part of a batch of 10 helicopters acquired by the Federal Government.
He added that the remaining seven aircraft in the batch were expected to be delivered before the end of 2026.
The two Airbus H-125 helicopters had arrived earlier, bringing the total number of helicopters received under the latest acquisition to five.
The new aircraft are expected to expand the Air Force’s aviation capacity and improve its operational readiness, while the reconstructed hangars will provide facilities for aircraft storage and maintenance.
The development comes as the Federal Government continues efforts to equip the military with modern facilities and equipment to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
