
The Nigeria Police Force has announced the death of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Kanayo V. Uzuegbu, after more than 30 years of service.
Uzuegbu was widely recognised for his professionalism, discipline, and commitment to public safety. He joined the Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police after training at the Police Academy in Kaduna. He hailed from Umuaka Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.
Over the course of his career, he served in various command and administrative roles across state and zonal commands, as well as at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
His appointments included Squadron Commander of No. 15 PMF in Ilorin, Area Commander in Owerri and Karu, Director of the Central Planning and Training Unit at the Police Staff College in Jos, Commissioner of Police for Operations Communication at Force Headquarters, and Commissioner of Police for Enugu State Command.

He also served internationally as Commander of Sector 8 of the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in El-Daein, Darfur, Sudan.
In a statement signed by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Force described the late AIG as an officer who brought honour to the police and served the nation with dedication. The Nigeria Police Force extended condolences to his family and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
Uzuegbu held a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Port Harcourt, a Higher Diploma in Strategic Studies from the University of Maiduguri, and a Master’s in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the University of Nigeria. He underwent further training in counter-terrorism, human rights, the law of armed conflict, and strategic leadership.
