NDLEA Seizes N3.4bn Worth of Illicit Drugs, Arrests Fake Police Officer -

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has intercepted illicit drugs worth more than ₦3.4 billion in coordinated operations across several states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the agency, more than 1.3 million pills of tramadol and other opioids, alongside about 6,000kg of cannabis, were seized during the operations.

One of the major interceptions occurred at the Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos, where NDLEA operatives recovered 1,200 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 603.75kg and valued at about ₦1.81 billion. The consignment reportedly arrived from Montreal, Canada, on September 12 and was concealed inside two Toyota Sienna vehicles.

In Delta State, operatives arrested a 49-year-old man, Innocent Ekpe, who was allegedly impersonating a senior police officer. NDLEA said he used a forged police identification card bearing the name Godwin Emeka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, allegedly to evade scrutiny at checkpoints while transporting illicit drugs.

Ekpe was reportedly arrested along the Benin-Onitsha Expressway in Asaba with 292.48kg of skunk concealed in his vehicle. An alleged accomplice, 39-year-old Nduka Joseph, was also arrested.

In Edo State, NDLEA operatives raided an auto-repair workshop in Benin City, where they allegedly recovered 48kg of Canadian Loud and 152g of methamphetamine and arrested a 45-year-old suspect.

Other seizures were recorded in Niger, Lagos, Gombe, Imo and Ondo states. The agency said the operations also led to the recovery of large quantities of tramadol, codeine syrup, methamphetamine and other illicit substances.

In Niger State, three suspects were also arrested with locally fabricated firearms and ammunition during an operation along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.

The NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers involved and urged them to sustain intelligence-driven operations against drug trafficking and abuse across the country.
