Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have foiled an armed robbery attack along the Kaduna-Zaria Highway after engaging suspected gunmen in a shootout, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon several vehicles and articulated trucks.
The incident reportedly occurred around 3am on Saturday after the suspected robbers mounted a roadblock along the highway and began attacking motorists.
According to a senior NDLEA official, the agency’s operatives responded to a distress call from a motorist who escaped from the attackers and alerted officers stationed nearby.
The operatives reportedly moved swiftly to the scene, engaging the gunmen in a gun battle and successfully repelling the attack.
The official disclosed that no one was kidnapped during the incident, attributing the outcome to the timely intervention of the NDLEA personnel.

A video showing the aftermath of the encounter later circulated on social media on Monday. The footage captured several abandoned vehicles and articulated trucks along the highway, with some engines reportedly still running.
NDLEA operatives were also seen patrolling the area and inspecting the abandoned vehicles and belongings left behind by the fleeing suspects.
In the footage, an officer speaking in Hausa confirmed that the suspected robbers had fled following the arrival of the agency’s personnel.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State NDLEA spokesperson, Sani Garba, promised to provide further details after making enquiries but had yet to respond as of the time of filing the report.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, for comments were unsuccessful.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over highway attacks and insecurity, particularly along major travel routes in the country.
