The Nigerian Navy has uncovered about 10,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) in the Eleme Express area of Rivers State.
The discovery was made on September 12 during an anti-crude oil theft patrol conducted by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder around the Eleme-Okrika-Onne axis.
According to the Navy, the petroleum product was stored in 400 jerrycans, with each container holding 25 litres. The products were reportedly being kept for onward distribution and sale.

The Navy said the location appeared to be a suspected storage point within an illicit petroleum supply network. However, no illegal refining site was found at the location.
The suspected operators reportedly fled after sighting the patrol team, and no arrest was made.
The Navy said the recovery would help disrupt the illegal petroleum supply chain and limit the distribution of illegally refined products in the area.
