The Nigerian Navy Ship DELTA hosted an inter-agency sports fiesta in Warri on Tuesday as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary.
The event, held at the NNS DELTA Football Field, featured a mixed volleyball match with personnel from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, NDLEA, NSCDC, and other security agencies. A novelty football match for boys and girls from host communities was also part of the celebration. All participants received sports kits, plaques, and awards.
Commander of NNS DELTA, Commodore Shehu M. Tasiu, said the fiesta was organized to celebrate 70 years of naval service while promoting teamwork, unity, and healthy living among security agencies and the public. He noted that sports build physical fitness, mental well-being, and character, especially for young people.
“Sport is more than competition. It is medicine for the body and strength for the mind,” Tasiu said. “The Navy of tomorrow will be built by the children of today. When they run on this field with our officers and ratings, they see us not just as uniformed personnel, but as mentors, neighbours and friends.”
