The Nigerian Navy has rescued eight kidnapped victims during coordinated counter-insurgency operations under Operation FASAN YAMMA in parts of Nigeria’s North-West region.
According to Navy spokesperson, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the operations were carried out between April 2 and April 18, 2026, by personnel deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ibira and other tactical units across Kaduna State and surrounding areas.
On April 18, troops responded to a distress call along the Doka–Ibira axis, where they engaged armed extremists in a gun duel.
The attackers fled, abandoning their captives. Five victims were rescued in the encounter, four of whom sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to General Hospital, Idon for treatment, while one later died.
