
More senior cadre Engineers in the Department of State Services (DSS), who meet the prescribed requirements are set to attain the Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), while other Engineering personnel of the Service with recognised Engineering qualifications can now commence the process of securing membership in the Society’s approved membership categories.
This was the outcome of an early-morning meeting between the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, FNSE, F.ASCE, FAEng, MFR, and the Director of Engineering, Department of State Services (DSS), Engr. David Gowon Ojatah, MNSE, at the National Engineering Centre (NEC) Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
Speaking at the meeting, Engr. Ojatah commended the significance and far-reaching impact of the recent courtesy visit by the NSE President to the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Adeola Ajayi, noting that the engagement had brought renewed attention to the professional development and advancement of Engineers within the Service.
He disclosed that the Director General had responded positively to the requests made during and after the visit. He made a proposal for the elevation of qualified Senior Engineers in the Service to the Fellowship of the NSE. He also appealed for a special window through which qualified Engineers in the DSS could regularise their professional membership of the Society.

Receiving Engr. Ojatah and his team, Engr. Rabiu expressed appreciation to the DSS Director General for his prompt and positive response to the requests presented during his earlier visit.
The NSE President particularly acknowledged the Director General’s support and cooperation, stressing that the Society was counting on the continued commitment of the DSS towards the successful hosting of the NSE International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting, scheduled to hold in Maiduguri from November 30 to December 4, 2026.
Engr. Rabiu assured Engr. Ojatah that, notwithstanding the Society’s recent tightening of the requirements and procedures governing Fellowship conferment, qualified Senior Engineers of the DSS would be duly considered, provided they submit their applications and fulfil all prescribed requirements.
He further directed the NSE Secretariat to receive the list of qualified Engineering personnel from the DSS and immediately commence the necessary processes towards their admission into the appropriate membership grades of the Society.
The NSE President also told Engr. Ojatah to convey his special appreciation to the Director General of the DSS for the warm reception accorded him and members of the Conference Planning Committee (CPC) during their recent visit, describing the gesture as a demonstration of institutional goodwill towards the Engineering profession and the forthcoming NSE International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting in Maiduguri.
