A 40-year-old man, Badamasi Ibrahim, has been rescued alive after becoming trapped inside an abandoned well while attempting to save his cow in Makoda Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Sabon Ruwa Village after the five-year-old cow accidentally fell into the abandoned well.
According to the Kano State Fire Service, firefighters received a distress call at about 3:22 p.m. after Ibrahim Jibrin alerted personnel at the Danbatta Fire Station about the incident.
The agency’s Emergency Response Unit immediately proceeded to the scene, where they found Badamasi inside the well after he had entered in an attempt to rescue his animal but became trapped and unable to climb out.

The Fire Service said the man experienced breathing difficulties while inside the well. However, firefighters successfully rescued both Badamasi and the cow alive.
Following the operation, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, cautioned residents against attempting to enter wells to rescue people or animals.
He urged members of the public to contact the Fire Service or other emergency responders whenever anyone or an animal falls into a well or another hazardous location.
The Director warned that entering or diving into wells without the necessary equipment and expertise could result in serious injury or death.
