A branch manager of Polaris Bank, identified as Ossy, has been killed by suspected kidnappers during an attack at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State.
The incident reportedly happened on Sunday, September 6, 2026, when the banker, who was based in Owerri, went to the university to drop off his children, who are students of the institution.
According to reports, the suspected kidnappers accosted him within the university premises. The banker was allegedly shot after resisting the attackers, while his children managed to escape.
Two female students were also reportedly abducted by the gunmen as they fled the scene.
Polaris Bank, in a statement issued by its Head of Brand Management and Corporate Communication, Rasheed Bolarinwa, expressed grief over the death of the branch manager and extended condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
The bank said the incident was being investigated by the relevant security agencies and expressed confidence that the circumstances surrounding the attack would be established.
FUTO management also confirmed the fatal shooting of a visitor on the university campus and the reported abduction of two female students.
Following the incident, the university management met with the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, to discuss the security situation around the institution and its host communities.

The police commissioner reportedly assured the university that security would be strengthened around FUTO and neighbouring areas, including Ihiagwa, Eziobodo, Obinze and Nekede.
FUTO management subsequently urged students and staff to remain calm and vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement and promptly report suspicious activities.
As of the time of the report, the police had not announced any arrest in connection with the killing and abduction.
