
The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect following a swift intelligence-led operation in Takai Local Government Area.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident began on May 12, 2026, when the Command received a distress call at 4:54pm. The caller reported that a silver Pontiac Vibe with registration number KMC 928 LK had been stolen in Kaduna State and was heading toward Kano.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, operatives were deployed to border communities to block the suspected route. The Divisional Police Officer in Takai set up a roadblock where the vehicle was intercepted.

The suspect, 38-year-old Christian Ikwumesi of Benin, Edo State, was arrested at the scene and the vehicle recovered. Preliminary investigation confirmed that the car was stolen from Kaduna State.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Kano for further investigation. The recovered vehicle has since been handed over to its owner, who praised the police for their quick response.
Commissioner Bakori commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cross-border crime. He urged residents to continue reporting suspicious movements through the police emergency lines.
