Gunmen Abandon Rocket Launchers as Anambra Security Squad Raids Camps -

Operatives of the Anambra State security outfit, Agunechemba Security Squad, have dismantled suspected gunmen’s camps in Orumba North and Orumba South Local Government Areas, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon a cache of dangerous weapons, including rocket launchers and General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs).

The operation, driven by intelligence gathering and undercover missions across key security flashpoints in the Anambra South Senatorial District, marks a major breakthrough in the state’s fight against insecurity.

According to a statement by the outfit’s Publicity Secretary, Nweke Nweke, the successful raid led to the recovery of two General Purpose Machine Guns and locally fabricated rocket launchers, which have since been handed over to the Nigerian Army.

“This is another significant achievement for the Agunechemba Security Squad. The dislodgement of these camps and recovery of high-grade weapons highlight the effectiveness of our intelligence-led operations,” Nweke stated.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, commended the Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo for its continued support of the security outfit, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to partnering with local and federal agencies to combat criminality.

The formal handover of the recovered weapons took place in Awka and was led by Chief Chinenye Ihenko, who represented the Governor’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Kenneth Emeakayi.

Ihenko described the move as a strong demonstration of collaboration between Agunechemba and federal security forces.

He further praised the operatives for their bravery, noting that despite coming under attack during the operation, no casualties were recorded.
“When confronted, the gunmen fled with injuries, abandoning their weapons. This stands as one of our most significant operational successes,” he said.

Also speaking, the Commander of the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Onitsha, represented by Lt. P.O. Idowu, applauded the synergy between the Nigerian Army, the police, and the Agunechemba Security Squad.

Residents have been urged to continue supporting security agencies with credible information, as authorities stress that tackling insecurity requires collective effort.

The operation underscores ongoing efforts by the Anambra State Government and security agencies to reclaim communities previously affected by criminal activities and restore lasting peace across the state.
