A woman severely burned in a gas explosion in Bille, Rivers State, has died, with a community lawyer alleging that she received inadequate medical care before her death.
Joy Amos, an indigene of Ogoni, sustained severe burns when a gas explosion occurred at her residence in Opu Ibiila Community, Bille, on September 3.
She was initially treated at a maternity home before being transferred to Braithwaite Memorial Hospital (BMH) after the Rivers State Government became involved.
According to community lawyer Owanaemi Deinbo, Amos and her family later complained about the quality of care at the hospital, particularly regarding feeding and other aspects of her treatment.

He also alleged that Amos and her parents requested that she be moved from the facility two days before her death.
Amos reportedly died from injuries sustained in the explosion and has since been buried. Questions remain over the circumstances surrounding her treatment and whether her family has received compensation.
The incident has renewed concerns about gas bubbling and seepage in Bille, where environmental groups have previously warned of potential risks to residents.
CAPPA had called for oil and gas activities around the community to be suspended pending investigations into the source of the gas emissions and confirmation that the area is safe.
