The Federal Road Safety Corps has arrested suspected members of a phone theft and “one chance” robbery gang and recovered a stolen mobile phone during an operation in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Corps said its patrol team intercepted the suspects in the early hours of Monday along the Babalegba–Eleyele–Ojoo corridor. According to a statement by Corps Public Education Officer Osondu Ohaeri, officers became suspicious after a motorcycle rider was seen chasing a Nissan Micra with registration number AJW 903XE.

A female passenger inside the vehicle raised an alarm that her phone had been stolen.
Acting swiftly, the patrol team stopped the vehicle and commenced preliminary interrogation,” the FRSC stated.
The driver, identified as Idowu Mukaila, allegedly claimed he could help recover the stolen device. Shortly after, another individual arrived and produced the phone, which further raised suspicion of an organised criminal operation.
The matter was reported to relevant authorities and the suspects were taken in for further investigation. Officials of the Park Management System and Oyo State Drivers’ Union later told the Corps that both the driver and the vehicle had been under surveillance over allegations of phone theft and “one chance” robberies in Ibadan.
Following interrogation by the Sector Commander and Deputy Corps Commander Operations, the case was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Eleyele Division, for comprehensive investigation and possible prosecution.
The FRSC said the arrest highlights the importance of vigilance among patrol operatives and collaboration between security agencies. It urged members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities promptly.
