Four people, including two children, have died in a road accident involving a commercial tricycle and a water tanker at Kanani Academy Junction, behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) square in Gombe State.
The fatal crash occurred on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and involved eight occupants travelling in the tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State, Samson Kaura, confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary eyewitness accounts indicated that the tricycle rammed into the rear of the water tanker.
According to Kaura, four occupants lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries. The remaining two occupants, both adult males, reportedly escaped without injuries.
He explained that the FRSC did not directly carry out the rescue operation because the command received information about the accident late. However, officers visited the Specialist Hospital where the victims were taken for medical attention.

The crash reportedly involved pupils and students from three educational institutions: Government Day Secondary School, Ahmadu Gombe; Government Day Junior Secondary School, Jekadafari, under the Universal Basic Education programme; and Jekadafari Primary School.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the vulnerability of children and other passengers travelling in commercial vehicles.
Motorists and commercial transport operators are urged to exercise caution, maintain safe following distances and observe traffic regulations to help prevent avoidable road accidents.
