Former Senator Bello Mandiya, who represented Katsina South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has died at the age of 62.
Mandiya reportedly passed away in Abuja on Monday, September 7, 2026. His death was confirmed by the Katsina State Government, with officials announcing that his remains would be buried in Abuja on Tuesday.
The cause of death was not disclosed at the time the announcement was made.
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, expressed sadness over the former senator’s death, describing it as a major loss to both Katsina State and Nigeria.
Radda, in a condolence message, said Mandiya made significant contributions to public service and would be remembered for his commitment to the people he served.
The governor extended his condolences to Mandiya’s family, former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, the people of Katsina South, his political associates and former colleagues in the Senate.

Before becoming a senator, Mandiya served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari.
He was elected to the Senate in 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Katsina South in the Ninth National Assembly. His tenure ended in 2023.
The news of his death has continued to generate reactions from political associates and residents of Katsina State, with tributes expected to follow as preparations for his burial continue.
