Flying Officer Isa Muyiwa Adeshina, one of the 25 people who died in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) ATR-42 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, had been commissioned just nine days before the tragic incident.
Adeshina was formally commissioned into the Nigerian Air Force on September 26, 2026, after emerging as the best graduating cadet of Branch Commission Course 3 at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
According to military sources, he received his award from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during the cadets’ passing-out parade.
The newly commissioned officer was reportedly the only flying officer aboard NAF 931, which crashed in Igbokoda on Monday, killing everyone on board.

Adeshina had joined the Air Force in August 2010 as an air intelligence operator and rose to the rank of sergeant in September 2025 before being selected for the branch commissioning programme.
Beyond his military career, Adeshina was remembered as a dedicated teacher. He previously taught Physics and Mathematics at As-Siraat Comprehensive College in Amukoko, Lagos, where he eventually became vice-principal.
His former students and colleagues have since taken to social media to mourn him, describing him as intelligent, diligent, inspiring and a major influence in their lives.
His death has left family members, colleagues, former students and the wider military community mourning a promising career that ended just days after it began.
May his soul rest in peace.
