At least five people have died after a fully loaded diesel tanker reportedly suffered brake failure and crashed into several vehicles along the Iwo Road–Ojoo Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The fatal accident occurred around 10 a.m. on Saturday at Aduloju Bus Stop, opposite Dominion City, following a traffic buildup caused by a broken-down trailer carrying motor spare parts near the Arilogu area.
According to the General Manager of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), Adeoye Ayoade, the tanker lost its brakes amid the heavy traffic and fell onto several vehicles, including commercial Nissan Micra cars.
Ayoade disclosed that the tanker’s container landed on one of the Micra vehicles, killing all five occupants. The victims comprised two men, including the driver, and three women.
