A late-night fire outbreak has destroyed several shops and offices along Murtala Mohammed Way in the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday night near First City Monument Bank, reportedly started from a salvage yard popularly known as Takumbo Market before spreading to nearby buildings.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the agency received a distress call at about 10:54 p.m. from one of its personnel, HFS Ibrahim Sabo.
Firefighters from the Service Headquarters, alongside other metropolitan fire stations, were swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found a one-storey building and an adjoining commercial area measuring approximately 300 by 200 feet engulfed in flames.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire originated from the salvage yard, where a large quantity of goods was destroyed before the inferno spread to surrounding structures.
The upper floor of the Kanawa Building was significantly affected, with two offices, two parlours, two toilets, and a kitchen completely damaged.
Additionally, two stores on the ground floor belonging to TUSRAYS Nigeria Limited were also impacted.
The Fire Service attributed the cause of the incident to an electrical spark.
Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents and business owners to prioritize safety measures to prevent future fire outbreaks.
“Electrical installations should be properly maintained, and safety precautions must be strictly observed,” he advised.
He also emphasized the importance of early reporting of fire incidents, noting that prompt alerts enable emergency responders to minimize damage and protect lives and property.
