
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a man, Zayyanu Halilu, for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl and impregnating her.
The suspect was arrested on October 2 by officers of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit during a routine patrol around the Airport Bridge Taxi Park.
According to the police, officers noticed a heavily tinted navy blue Volkswagen vehicle parked at the location with its windows wound up. The officers reportedly became suspicious after observing the vehicle shaking and moved closer to inspect it.
The police said the officers opened the vehicle and allegedly found Halilu sexually abusing the 12-year-old girl. The suspect was immediately arrested, while the victim was rescued.

The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had allegedly lured and sexually abused the girl on several occasions in the same vehicle.
Adeh added that the suspect allegedly threatened to harm the girl if she disclosed the abuse to anyone.
A medical examination reportedly showed that the victim was about three months pregnant as a result of the alleged abuse.
The police said the girl is currently receiving medical care and undergoing further assessment, while the suspect remains in custody.
According to the command, the suspect will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and welfare of their children and wards.
He also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
