More than a year after five-year-old Memunah Abdulrahman was abducted in Lagos, her family says the incident has left them heavily indebted and forced them to relocate to Ogun State.
Memunah was reportedly kidnapped on March 9, 2025, while returning from an Islamic school with her elder sister in the Ejigbo area of Lagos.
According to her father, Alimi Abdulrahman, the suspected kidnapper allegedly approached the children at a supermarket before taking Memunah away in a tricycle. CCTV footage reportedly captured the incident.
The family said the alleged abductors later demanded ransom, with more than ₦140,000 reportedly paid in two instalments without the child being released. Memunah’s mother also claimed that additional payments, including ₦700,000, were made during the ordeal.

The situation reportedly became worse after individuals allegedly broke into the family’s Lagos home, threw a chemical substance inside and stole their phones and ATM cards. The family said more than ₦150,000 sent to help them relocate was later withdrawn from one of the stolen cards.
Unable to cope with mounting debts, unpaid rent and the financial burden of searching for their daughter, the family eventually left Lagos for Ogun State.
More than a year later, Memunah’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The family is now appealing to the public, security agencies and relevant authorities for help in locating their daughter and bringing her home.
