Hundreds of traders, tricycle operators and commercial drivers took to the streets of Enugu on Wednesday, protesting what they described as rising taxes, daily levies and the increasing cost of fuel.
The protesters blocked major roads and transport hubs around Ogbete Main Market, Old Park and the Holy Ghost axis, disrupting traffic and business activities in the city.
Some transport operators claimed that their daily levies had risen from about ₦350 to as much as ₦1,000 in the past 20 months, alongside park fees and other charges.
The protesters said the increased financial burden, coupled with rising petrol prices, was making it increasingly difficult for them to operate profitably.

They called for a review of the levies and other charges imposed on traders and transport operators.
The Enugu State Government, however, said its central e-ticket system was introduced to consolidate multiple levies and eliminate illegal road tolls and alleged multiple collections.
Police and government officials were deployed to the affected areas to engage the protesters and restore normal movement.
