A 30-year-old man, identified as Okpara Emmanuel, has been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Chinyere, following an argument over allegations of HIV infection.
The incident reportedly occurred on September 19 in the Olympic Layout area of Enugu State.
According to the police, neighbours discovered the woman’s decomposing body inside the suspect’s apartment after noticing a foul odour coming from the residence. The remains were allegedly wrapped in nylon and concealed inside the toilet.
Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said Emmanuel was apprehended by neighbours and later rescued by police operatives from an angry mob.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the killing, claiming that an argument over who infected the other with HIV escalated before he struck the woman on the head with a pestle.
The victim’s remains have been taken to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while police efforts are ongoing to identify and notify her relatives.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation. The suspect is expected to be arraigned after the investigation is concluded.
The police have also urged members of the public, particularly young women, to exercise caution and inform trusted relatives or friends about their movements when visiting or spending time with others.
