The Ekiti State Police Command has dismissed a viral report claiming that a bus carrying passengers from Ado-Ekiti was hijacked along the Aramoko-Ekiti road on May 31, 2026.
The command said it deployed intelligence and tactical operatives to the area immediately after the claim spread on social media. Investigations revealed that the alarm was false and spread by individuals seeking to cause panic and discredit security efforts in the state.
In a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the command described the report as misleading and warned that spreading fake news is a criminal offence. Offenders will be prosecuted, it added.
