
The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a 36-year-old scavenger suspected of dealing in stolen materials in Benin City. The suspect, Ibrahim Ismail of Obakawaye Street, was apprehended on June 5, 2026, after the Command received credible intelligence on individuals trading in suspected stolen items within the state capital.
According to NSCDC spokesperson Ogbebor Efosa, the Tracking Unit under the Intelligence and Investigation Department launched an intelligence-led operation that led to Ismail’s arrest. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to purchasing aluminium windows from unidentified persons. He also confessed to buying electric copper wire for ₦30,000, part of which had already been burnt for further processing.

Edo State Commandant Akintayo Ayinla said the Command will not allow criminality and those who aid it to thrive in Edo State. He noted that NSCDC will continue to use intelligence-driven strategies and operational measures to flush out criminal elements and maintain law and order across the state.
The Command stated that investigations are still ongoing to identify and arrest other persons connected to the case who remain at large. At the conclusion of investigation, the suspect will be charged to court accordingly. NSCDC also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely, credible information to security agencies to support the fight against crime.
