The Edo State Government has demolished a building allegedly connected to cultism and ritual activities in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, as part of intensified efforts to combat crime.
The operation, carried out on Monday, also saw another property sealed off under the state’s ongoing security initiative tagged “Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists.”
The exercise involved the Edo State Security Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies working under the directive of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s media aide, Patrick Ebojele, the action followed credible intelligence and on-ground investigations by security operatives.
Speaking during the operation, the Secretary of the Edo State Security Squad, Barrister John Izegaegbe, disclosed that one of the affected buildings in Ebhoijie-Uromi was linked to a disturbing murder case.

He revealed that the decomposing body of a gatekeeper, identified as Mildah Dalandi, was discovered in the apartment on June 2, 2026, after residents reported a foul odour in the area. Medical experts reportedly confirmed that the body had been left in the apartment for about a month.
Izegaegbe further stated that two suspects, identified as Eweh Favour and Eweh Bright, are currently at large. Authorities have issued a 72-hour ultimatum for them to report to the Uromi Police Division or any nearby Area Command for questioning.
Following the discovery, a bungalow located on Ebason Street, believed to belong to the same suspects, was demolished. Security officials allege that the building served as an initiation ground for cult members.
Items recovered from the premises include laptops, machetes, battle axes, native pots, candles, a red liquid suspected to be used for rituals, identity documents, and photographs—one of which reportedly bore the inscription “Singapore ritualist.”
The Edo State Government reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents, adding that investigations into the case are ongoing.
