Security operatives at the Ilorin Custodial Centre in Kwara State have successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle suspected hard drugs into the facility.
The incident occurred on Monday when a visitor allegedly tried to beat standard security checks with the suspected assistance of compromised personnel.
However, vigilant officers on duty detected the irregularities and promptly foiled the attempt.
Sources revealed that the suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, has been arrested and subsequently handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

In response to the incident, the custodial centre’s management has strengthened internal security measures, particularly at entry points, to prevent any future breaches.
The development highlights the critical need for strict compliance with operational protocols, as authorities reaffirm a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and security compromise.
Staff members have also been urged to maintain heightened vigilance and uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
