
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Jabir Yusuf, following the alleged shooting and death of his neighbour, Hassan Mohamed, also 25, in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday at Rinjin Gura village in Zalau Ward.
According to the police, a resident of the area alerted the Rishi Divisional Police Station after Yusuf allegedly fired a Dane gun at Mohamed, striking him in the neck.
Police operatives from the Gumau Division were subsequently deployed to the scene and rushed the victim to Toro General Hospital for treatment.
However, medical personnel reportedly confirmed Mohamed dead on arrival.
The police said the deceased’s body was later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The suspect was arrested by the police, while the Dane gun allegedly used in the incident was recovered and kept as an exhibit.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
He also cautioned residents against unlawful possession and reckless use of firearms, warning that anyone found violating the law would face the consequences.
