
Residents of Iluke Bunu community in Kogi State have been thrown into mourning and fear following a deadly bandit attack that claimed the life of a school administrator and led to the abduction of several students.
The victim, identified as Mr. Gani Anifowose, the Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, Iluke, was reportedly killed during the early morning assault on Wednesday.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that armed bandits stormed the community, unleashing violence that has left residents in shock and panic.
In a related development, students from three neighboring communities who were scheduled to sit for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in English Language were allegedly kidnapped amid the chaos.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of students and educators in the region.

Community members say the area remains under threat, with little immediate response from security agencies despite distress calls.
A representative of the local community association expressed frustration over the delay in intervention, urging authorities to act swiftly.
“We have made several calls for help, but there has been no sign of rescue efforts. We appeal to security agencies to intensify operations, restore peace, and ensure the safe return of those abducted,” the representative stated.
The latest attack adds to the growing list of security challenges facing Kogi State and other parts of Nigeria, particularly in rural communities where residents continue to grapple with recurring incidents of banditry and abduction.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
