
A bandit leader has reportedly contacted the family of a retired military officer who was abducted alongside his wife in Katsina State, demanding the release of some of his relatives allegedly being held by security agencies.
The retired officer and his wife were kidnapped on Saturday after armed men attacked their vehicle along a road in Matazu Local Government Area. Witnesses said the gunmen blocked the road before forcing the couple into a nearby forest.
Sources familiar with the development said the bandit leader established communication with the family on Monday, allowing relatives to speak with the abducted retired general.
During the conversation, the retired officer reportedly assured family members that he and his wife were safe and in good condition. The development provided some relief to relatives who had been worried since news of the abduction emerged.
According to sources, the bandit leader used the opportunity to state his demands, insisting on the release of his relatives said to be in government custody.
