A notorious bandit leader, Alhaji Sani Yellow, has dismissed widespread reports claiming he was killed during a recent security operation in Zamfara State.
In a video circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, the feared kingpin appeared alive, debunking the claims and clarifying that the reports were a case of mistaken identity.
The video, shared by a user identified as Mobilisingnigerians, featured Sani Yellow directly addressing the rumours, insisting that he remains alive despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise.
According to information accompanying the video, the confusion stemmed from the killing of another bandit commander who also bore the nickname “Yellow.” The slain individual was reportedly loyal to a bandit leader known as Gwaska.
The statement read: “UPDATE: Alhaji Sani Yellow posted a video denying his death that occurred two days ago which was wrongly circulated on social media.
The dead bandit was actually a commander known as Yellow, loyal to Gwaska. The nickname ‘Yellow’ is common among bandits.”

Initial reports had indicated that a notorious bandit commander identified as Kachalla Sani Yellow was killed during a security operation in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, said to involve the Maiduguri Special Vigilantes supporting ongoing counter-banditry efforts, reportedly led to the death of the suspect, who was linked to multiple attacks along the Anka–Bagega Road.
Following the operation, the body of the slain bandit was displayed to residents in Anka as evidence of the success recorded by security operatives.
However, the emergence of the recent video has raised fresh questions about the true identity of the individual killed, suggesting that the deceased was not the widely known kingpin, Alhaji Sani Yellow.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities have yet to release an official statement clarifying the identity of the bandit neutralised during the operation.
