A newborn baby was reportedly found alive beside the bodies of its slain parents following a deadly attack on a community in Plateau State, according to a church leader who spoke on the worsening insecurity in the state.
Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, a regional leader of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), disclosed the incident on May 26, 2026, while lamenting renewed violence and recurring attacks in Plateau communities.
According to the cleric, the couple was allegedly killed while trying to protect their child during the attack. He said residents who fled the community during the violence later returned the next morning and discovered the infant still alive inside the house beside the bodies of the parents.
Dachomo described the incident as heartbreaking, adding that several other residents were also killed during the assault.
He alleged that many of the attackers responsible for repeated violence in Plateau communities had regrouped after earlier military operations and relocated to different parts of the state.

According to him, some of the suspected attackers temporarily dispersed before quietly returning and settling within communities across the region while waiting for another opportunity to strike.
The cleric further stated that victims of the attack were later buried, with some reportedly laid to rest in a mass grave.
He added that members of the affected community eventually handed custody of the surviving child to church members because the infant constantly reminded them of the traumatic attack and the painful memories associated with the killings.
Despite the tragedy, Dachomo said the community had chosen forgiveness while continuing to call for stronger security measures to protect residents from further attacks.
Plateau State has witnessed recurring communal violence and deadly attacks over the years, particularly in rural communities, leading to loss of lives and displacement of residents. Security agencies have repeatedly promised to restore peace in affected areas amid growing concerns from residents over continued insecurity.
