Amnesty International has called on the management of Madonna University, Elele Campus, Rivers State, to reverse the expulsion of a final-year nursing student and suspension of 14 other 500-level students over a viral TikTok video recorded in a hospital.
The students reportedly came under disciplinary action after a video filmed during their hospital-based training surfaced online with the caption, “No sick oo, nah Gen Z full hospital.”
While the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had earlier appealed to the university to reconsider the punishment, Amnesty International described the sanctions as disproportionate and urged the institution to resolve the matter through dialogue and mediation.

The rights organisation warned that the disciplinary measures could severely affect the students’ academic progress and future careers, particularly the final-year student who was expelled.
Amnesty International also stressed that students have rights to freedom of expression, education and academic freedom, urging the university to ensure that its disciplinary procedures comply with international human rights standards.
The controversy has also renewed concerns about students’ use of social media and the importance of exercising caution when recording or sharing content from sensitive environments such as hospitals.
