Award-winning actress Michaela Coel has said the United Kingdom is gradually losing its appeal to West Africans, with many now seeking a more peaceful life in countries such as Ghana.
Coel, who grew up in East London, shared that she now divides her time between the UK and Ghana, where she feels more at ease. She suggested that shifting attitudes, along with current social tensions, are influencing how people view life in Britain.
Speaking about the situation, she pointed to ongoing anti-immigration protests as a factor contributing to a less welcoming atmosphere. Recalling a demonstration she observed from her London home, Coel said it felt unusual, adding that fewer people appear eager to move to the UK compared to the past.

She also noted a broader trend among West Africans, explaining that many are increasingly open to leaving if opportunities arise, and that the UK no longer holds the same level of attraction it once did.
Her remarks come amid intensified debates around immigration in Britain. A recent protest organized by Tommy Robinson drew crowds in London, where participants voiced concerns over free speech and ongoing migration issues.
