An Ebonyi State indigene residing in Igbo-Ukwu, Anambra State, has been arrested in connection with the disappearance of a young girl identified as Chisom.
The suspect, whose full name was not disclosed, was reportedly arrested by the Igbo-Ukwu Central Vigilante Group at his residence in Ngo village on Friday, September 4, 2026, following information provided by the girl’s family.
Chisom, from Umunono Village in Obiuno, Igbo-Ukwu, was said to have disappeared around June 2026, shortly after completing her Senior West African School Certificate Examination.
According to the report, her parents had embarked on a search for her and circulated her photographs on social media while also alerting security agencies in the area.
The development reportedly took a new turn after residents claimed they had seen Chisom in the company of the suspect on several occasions shortly before her disappearance.
Following the information, the girl’s parents allegedly contacted the local vigilante group, which subsequently arrested the suspect.
The suspect was said to have initially denied knowledge of the girl’s whereabouts but allegedly made an admission during questioning by the vigilante operatives.
The vigilante group later handed him over to the police at Igbo-Ukwu, where detectives reportedly took over the investigation and commenced efforts to locate the missing girl.
The incident has generated concern in the community, with residents calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Chisom’s disappearance.

There havealso been unverified concerns about young girls allegedly being lured with promises of lucrative employment abroad before disappearing.
However, the claims of a wider child-trafficking network have not been independently established, and no police statement confirming such a syndicate was contained in the report.
Efforts to obtain further comments from the police, the vigilante group and the girl’s family were reportedly unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
The investigation is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding Chisom’s disappearance and whether the arrested suspect has any connection to her whereabouts.
